When I was diagnosed with bone cancer at 20, I had already spent years dealing with health challenges. In my mid-teens, I suffered from seizures, severe stomach pain, and blockages that often caused me to pass out. These experiences taught me invaluable lessons about my body's response to stress, food, and overall health.
The cancer treatments I underwent—chemotherapy and radiation—only added to the toll on my body. Radiation fibrosis, in particular, made it harder for me to digest large, solid meals. These issues persisted even after my cancer treatment. To this day, I continue to experience episodes of stomach pain, blockages, and even seizures if I eat highly fatty foods, like fried chicken. This ongoing challenge has driven me to meticulously fine-tune my diet for optimal healing and comfort.
Adapting to Radiation Fibrosis and Digestive Challenges
Given my history with digestive issues, radiation fibrosis only added another layer of complexity to how my body processes food. Over time, I found that protein smoothies became a great solution—offering a way to get the nutrients I needed without overwhelming my digestive system. This approach has helped me keep my meals light, nutritious, and easier to process.
Protein Smoothies: Simple, Wholesome, and Affordable
Protein smoothies have become my go-to choice for meals. They’re simple to prepare, easy to digest, and packed with wholesome ingredients like protein powder, fruits, leafy greens, and healthy fats. I’ve always focused on making my smoothies with ingredients that are accessible and affordable—because good nutrition doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. These smoothies not only provide the nutrients my body needs but also support my healing journey, giving me energy while being gentle on my system—and yet still absolutely delicious.
Additionally, these smoothies help me meet my macro nutrient goals, offering the perfect breakdown of fats, carbs, and protein that align with my fitness targets. Whether I’m recovering from a workout or preparing for my next one, I know that these smoothies give my body exactly what it needs to stay strong and energized.
